Let's Talk Kyazinam Foundation

Kyazinam Foundation

Kyazinam Foundation is a non-profit organization located in Mukono, Uganda. We are committed to empowering bright but disadvantaged children while supporting single mothers and widows in their efforts to break the cycle of poverty. At Kyazinam Foundation, we aim to transform lives throughout Uganda through education, empowerment, food programs and nutrition. Our goal is to create a world where vulnerable children, widows, and single mothers have access to quality education, economic opportunities, and a healthy lifestyle, through our sustainable approaches towards breaking the cycle of poverty.

Why We Do This:

School dropouts, unemployed widows, single mothers, and malnutrition are major obstacles to development in African and Ugandan communities, hindering the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In Africa, 98 million children are out of school, especially affecting girls and undermining SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).

In Uganda, 39% of children drop out of primary school, and 53% of youth lack basic literacy skills. Unemployed widows and single mothers face difficulties providing for their families, with 71% lacking formal employment, impacting SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work). Additionally, malnutrition affects 73 million children under five globally, with Uganda reporting 29% stunting, 4% wasting, and 11% underweight children, compromising SDG 2 (Zero Hunger) and SDG 3 (Good Health).

Interconnected issues hinder progress on several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). School dropouts and unemployed women face increased risks of poverty and social isolation, affecting SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). Malnutrition weakens community resilience and healthcare systems, impacting SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being). In Uganda, malnutrition costs about 5.6% of GDP annually, affecting SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth).

Cycle of poverty - Kyazinam Foundation

Breaking these cycles requires targeted interventions: quality education, vocational training, economic empowerment, and nutrition programs. By addressing these challenges, we can foster thriving communities, promote social mobility, and break the cycle of poverty.
