Women Empowerment
Skills Development as a vehicle for Women empowerment
In 2024, unemployed women without professional or vocational skills face stark challenges across Africa. Continentally, 71% of women lack access to formal employment, and 80% of female entrepreneurs operate informal, subsistence-level businesses (AFDB, 2024). In East Africa, 65% of women are unemployed, with 75% lacking basic skills training (ILO, 2024). Uganda specifically struggles with a 63% female unemployment rate, where 70% of women engage in vulnerable, low-paying work (UBOS, 2024). Furthermore, Ugandan women with no skills training are 3.5 times more likely to experience domestic violence and 2.5 times more likely to live in poverty (UNFPA, 2024). These disparities perpetuate gender inequality, limiting economic growth, social mobility, and women’s empowerment.
By promoting women empowerment through equipping them with vocational skills, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial training, we drive progress toward gender equality (SDG 5). By acquiring skills and knowledge, women gain the confidence, autonomy, and economic independence necessary to challenge and dismantle the social, cultural, and economic barriers that perpetuate gender-based discrimination and inequality. As women become more economically empowered, they are better equipped to participate in decision-making processes, negotiate equal rights and opportunities, and advocate for policies and practices that promote gender equality. Ultimately, women’s empowerment through skills development helps to level the playing field, fostering a more just and equitable society where women and girls have equal opportunities to thrive and reach their full potential.
Poverty reduction (SDG 1), and economic growth (SDG 8). Women empowerment also improves health outcomes (SDG 3), as educated and financially independent women make informed decisions about their well-being and families. Moreover, skilled women contribute to sustainable communities (SDG 11), drive innovation (SDG 9), and promote peace and justice (SDG 16). By investing in women’s skills development, we unlock a ripple effect of positive change, fostering a more equitable and prosperous world.
We are dedicated to women’s empowerment, offering skills development and promoting economic independence. We believe every woman deserves the opportunity to thrive, free from societal and economic constraints. Our goal is to equip women with the skills, knowledge, and confidence necessary for success in their chosen fields. We aim to foster personal growth, financial independence, and transformative change within their communities.
Beyond financial independence, we believes that women empowerment through skills development is a critical strategy for reducing gender-based violence against women in Uganda. By acquiring entrepreneurship, vocational training, and financial literacy skills, women gain economic independence, confidence, and a stronger sense of self-worth. This, in turn, enables them to challenge and change the patriarchal norms and power dynamics that perpetuate violence against them. Empowered women are more likely to assert their rights, negotiate safer relationships, and seek support when faced with violence. Furthermore, economically empowered women are less likely to be trapped in abusive relationships due to financial dependence, thereby reducing their vulnerability to gender-based violence.
